Nintendo Direct Recap: Pikmin 4; Splatoon 3; Metroid Prime Remastered; TLoZ: Tears of the Kingdom

Today's Nintendo Direct brought us a flurry of news. Let's get into the highlights!


Pikmin 4

The direct kicked off with a look at Pikmin 4. The trailer gave us our first look at gameplay, including an all-new female protagonist. There will also be some new mechanics in the game, including an all-new Ice Pikmin and dog-like creature.

Splatoon 3 Expansion Pass

Splatoon 3 will be getting its expansion pass. The pass will include two expansions. The first will see players return to Inkopolis. The hub world from the original Splatoon game will be recreated in Splatoon 3 for players to use. The second expansion will be titled Side Order and seems to be a story featuring Marina and Pearl from Splatoon 2.

Metroid Prime Remastered

The GameCube classic, Metroid Prime is getting a facelift in Metroid Prime Remastered. The original game will feature brand-new textures and controls to help bring the game to the Nintendo Switch. Metroid Prime Remastered is available today digitally and will release in stores on February 22.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

We got a brand-new trailer for the highly anticipated game. There seem to be new mechanics such as making moving vehicles, new enemy types, and an even bigger world to explore, including the skies. The game is still set to release this May, but will now have a $69.99 price tag.

Smaller Highlights

  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Expansion Pass - Volume 3 will release today with a new challenge mode; Volume 4 will feature a new story with the return of Shulk and Rex.

  • Samba de Amigo Party Central sees the return of Sega's rhythm franchise.

  • Tron: Identity will launch this April as a console launch exclusive.

  • Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective will be ported to the Nintendo Switch.

  • Disney Illusion Island will launch on July 25th, featuring Mickey Mouse and friends.

  • Fire Emblem Engage Expansion Pass Wave 2 launches today, with Wave 4 being announced to include a new story.

  • Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection will see the first three games being remastered for Nintendo Switch systems and include all new QoL features.

  • Advanced Wars 1+2: Re-Tooled Camp makes its return, set for release now on April 21st.

  • GameBoy and GameBoy Advance games will be coming to Nintendo Switch Online. GameBoy Advanced games will be exclusive to the NSO Expansion Pack.

  • Professor Layton makes his return in 3D. Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will be making its way onto Nintendo Switch consoles.

  • Wave 4 of the Mario Kart Booster Pass will feature a brand-new course inspired by Yoshi's Island and an all-new character in Birdo.
