Xbox Games Showcase Recap: Starfield, Fable, Persona 3 Reload, Avowed, Clockwork Revolution

Updated: Jun 12, 2023

What a show! Xbox brought us its annual summer games showcase with a look at many great games. In fact, the actual numbers came down to 27 games shown in total, with 21 of those coming to Game Pass, and 13 of those being from first-party studios. So, let's get into the highlights.

Starfield

Of course, the biggest game of the show, with its own entire direct following the showcase, was Starfield, the next game from Bethesda Game Studios. We got a pretty fantastic trailer during the showcase, but the real magic came during the Starfield Direct.

There was a lot of new information given, so I'm going to focus on some of my favorite things shared. Starfield will feature thousands of planets for players to explore. As for the cities Bethesda is known for, the game will feature 4 major cities. New Atlantis, Cydonia, Akila City, and Neon.

Players will be able to join Constellation as they try to discover what secrets space has in store for them. This includes meeting up with the members of the group and journeying with them on your ship and even on foot as your companions.

Bethesda makes note that Starfield will feature their most in-depth character customization system yet. Players will have tons of options to make their character look like what they want. There will also be skills and perks that allow players to create their own unique role-playing experience, unlike any other game.

Starfield will also see a very advanced ship-building feature. Players will be allowed to build whatever their minds can dream of. For example, if you want to make your ship a giant robot, you can. You will also be able to have a crew onboard and take place in battles in space. As Bethesda confirmed, boarding enemy ships to steal their sandwiches is possible.

Finally, Todd Howard announced a Starfield headset, controller, and collectors edition, which will feature a working watch based on the one in-game.

Starfield is set for launch on September 9, 2023, exclusively for Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Fable

After quite a bit of silence, Playground Games gave us a small look at their reboot of Fable. While we didn't get to see much, the classic humor and charm of the franchise seem to still be present. We also had confirmation that the game is indeed set in Albion, the location of the original series.

Fable is set to release exclusively for Xbox Series X|S and PC in the near future.

Persona 3 Reload

One of my most wished-for games of all time has finally been announced. Persona 3 will be receiving a remake with Persona 3 Reload. Atlus confirmed this will be a remake of just the original Persona 3 and will not feature any of the FES or Portable content. The remake will feature an all-new voice cast and a remastered soundtrack.

Set for release in early 2024, Persona 3 Reload will be launching on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a launch on Xbox Game Pass also being confirmed.

Avowed

Obsidian finally gave us a look at Avowed. Set in the world of Eora, players will discover a land full of danger, magic, and many secrets. The game is expected to feature the role-playing aspects that Obsidian has become to been known for. The gameplay looks great and the world looks super lively with lots of colors.

Avowed is set to release exclusively for Xbox Series X|S and PC sometime in 2024.

Clockwork Revolution

Xbox closed the main showcase with a look at inXile's next big RPG in Clockwork Revolution. Set in a steampunk setting, the game will feature time travel that lets you shape both the future and the past. Avalon, the steam-powered city, will have major butterfly effects for every action players take.

Brian Fargo, studio head, stated that the game will feature all the great RPG reactivity the studio has had in their past games.

Clockwork Revolution is set to release exclusively for Xbox Series X|S and PC sometime in 2024.

Smaller Highlights

Star Wars Outlaws

From Ubisoft and Massive, the first open-world Star Wars game ever is coming in 2024. We will get a full-gameplay reveal tomorrow at Ubisoft Forward, so we will go more in-depth then.

Senua's Saga Hellblade II

The highly anticipated sequel is coming in 2024. Ninja Theory gave us a small snippet of Senua's journey, with some small hints at what the full plot may hold.

Metaphor ReFantazio

Atlus has finally given us a look at the long-awaited Project ReFantasy, now known as Metaphor Re Fantazio. The game, which looks like a fantasy-Persona, is set to release in 2024.
