Final Trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Released
Since its announcement at E3 2019, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been shrouded by mystery in relevance to its plot and many of its new mechanics. But, that all changed today when Nintendo released the final trailer for the highly anticipated game.
The trailer opened up with a look at Hyrule and the many sky islands. We then get to see Link diving through the sky, many different villages and towns, a look at new dungeons, and some new exciting locations.
But, the most exciting part of the trailer is definitely its hints at the overall story. From what we can gather, the iconic shot of Link jumping after a falling Zelda seems to take place near the start of the game. Zelda will be lost and it will be up to Link to face up against Ganondorf, who is making his return to the series, and his forces of evil to save Hyrule and Princess Zelda. This will be the first game since 2007's The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess to feature Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf. A major element of the plot also seems to be actual "tears of the kingdom", which seem to be jewels that will need to be collected to face the final challenge.
The trailer shows off new methods of transportation, ways to fight enemies, and exciting new set pieces, such as a mine cart section and giant buildings in the sky.
Also in the trailer, we get to hear the returning voice actors from Breath of the Wild, but it seems Ganondorf will be voiced by Matt Mercer, who needs no introduction.
"The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom" releases on May 12, exclusively for Nintendo Switch. You can watch the thrilling final trailer here.
Final Fantasy XVI State of Play Recap
PlayStation held a State of Play focused on Final Fantasy XVI today. Naoki Yoshida, the lead producer, and mind behind Final Fantasy XIV, walked us through a deep dive into the next game in the long-running franchise.
Players will take control of Clyde Wyvern and see parts of his teens, 20s, and 30s in the realm of Valisthea. We will start in his 20s and get flashbacks to his younger years, while moving back and forth as we see him age to his 30s.
Yoshida reconfirmed that this will be the first fully-action RPG in the series and be akin to a "roller coaster ride". In fact, this will be the first numbered Final Fantasy to be real-time, with no turn-based mechanics. The combat seems to take inspiration from Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy XV, with lots of magic and flying colors moving across your screen. Final Fantasy XVI will also offer two difficulties and many items to help more inexperienced players enjoy the game and story. There will also be a vast skill tree for players to put their skill points into and enhance their combat experience.
Valisthea will be a fully-open world to explore, with companions and friends to meet along the way. These companions include Jill and Clyde's dog friend Torgal, who you can feed treats. Party members will be fully AI-controlled with players not needing to worry about controlling them. The world will have many side-quests to complete, and shops to upgrade and build up your gear. This includes the hunt board which will allow you to go on hunts for certain creatures and monsters. There will also be tomes you can complete to help give you more background on the history of the realm.
Finally, Yoshida went into in-depth detail on the bosses you will face such as colossal beasts and the Fallen. But, the most exciting battles will be the Eikon battles. Looking like classic Final Fantasy cutscenes come to life, players will take part in thrilling Eikon battles that all play differently, such as a 3d scrolling shooter battle and a wrestling match. These seem to be the "roller coaster ride" moments Yoshida mentioned earlier.
Final Fantasy XVI releases exclusively for PlayStation 5 on June 22. You can watch the full State of Play here.
Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League Officially Delayed
After a report by Jason Schreier a month ago, Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Games have officially announced that Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League will be delayed from its original May release date to February 2, 2024.
This is a significant delay and Rocksteady says the decision has been made to make sure the best possible experience can be delivered.
According to Schreier, this delay is still just for polishing the game and it has nothing to do with the game's showcase at February's State of Play.
