Writer: Brandon AlanizBrandon Alaniz

Hey everybody! It has been quite a while since our last TGP. Life got a little bit hectic, but we are back on track and ready for the annual summer gaming events. So without further ado, let's get into some of today's headlines from the games industry.

Mortal Kombat 1 Announced

After weeks of hinting by series head and creator Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat 1 has officially been announced. Following the events of Mortal Kombat 11, Liu Kang has reset the Mortal Kombat universe and players will get the chance to explore the all-new yet familiar world.

NetherRealm shared that the game will feature an immersive story campaign unlike any of the previous game's single player campaigns. The game will also be introducing Kameo Fighters, which will be characters that assist you in battle.

The confirmed characters so far are Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, and Johnny Cage with more set to be revealed soon.

The game's deluxe edition will also give players access to a Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage, six new fighters, and five Kameo Fighters.

Mortal Kombat 1 is set for release on September 19 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Players that pre-order will also unlock Shang Tsung free of charge.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Sells 10M Copies

Nintendo announced today that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is officially the fastest-selling title in the franchise and also the fastest-selling first-party title of all time, selling over 10 million copies in just three days. The game is also currently the highest-rated game of all time on OpenCritic. Congratulations to Nintendo on the very successful launch!

PlayStation Showcase Announced

It has been quite a while since the last major PlayStation Showcase in September 2021, but that all changed today with Sony finally confirming a PlayStation Showcase for May 24th at 1 pm PDT. Sony said the event will focus on games coming to PS5 and PSVR2 from some of their top studios.

While we don't know what exactly will be shown, it is expected that Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 will make an appearance, especially since it is still set for a Fall 2023 release.
